India Should Be 10% Of Our Global Revenues In 5-10 Years: Cisco CEO

US technology giant Cisco is betting heavily on digitalization initiatives in India and its local team of more than 10,000 people to boost growth, and the country is expected to represent 10 percent of its global revenues in the coming years , its CEO Chuck Robbins said.

Speaking to PTI, Robbins said: "We have seen very balanced growth in India in recent years ... When we actually started some of our initiatives 3-4 years ago, (India) was a small percentage of our business. However, it has been growing rapidly and I think that in the next 5 to 10 years, India should easily become 10 percent of our income, there is no reason why it should not, and maybe even more. "

He did not comment on the current contribution of the Indian market since the company does not divide the income of the countries.

For fiscal year 2011, the company's global revenues grew by three percent to USD 49.3 percent.

Previously, Robbins has said that India is among Cisco's largest markets along with countries such as the United States, Japan and China.

In India, Cisco is experiencing strong growth in its software business, as well as vertical security. It also points to 3X growth in its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMB), where it added 5,000 new customers in 12 months. The company has more than 10,000 people in India, including engineering and sales.

"... the adoption of the technology, the remaining broadband construction that must occur and the understanding of the technology applies in addition to that, the release of 5 G. I want to say that all these things will continue to contribute to growth. (in India) ... Any of those things, if they change, could affect that (growth), "he said.

When asked about the key elements driving Cisco's growth in India, Robbins said it is due to three things: the belief in the power of technology, both from the government and the private sector, acceleration in the Cisco's innovation efforts in the country; and his strong local team.

"And then, when you have all those things working well and a strong economy to push (operations), then what you get is good growth and that's what we've seen here (India)," he said.

Speaking about Cisco's vision for 5G technology, Robbins said his team in India will play a key role, as a market and provider for next-generation technology that promises faster Internet speeds and better connectivity between devices.

"The resources we have in India, particularly engineering resources, operate in all aspects of our technology portfolio ... people (here they are) working on many of the software capabilities that will allow architecture for 5G, will allow the delivery of services and will also allow us to really guarantee the quality of service for some of these applications, and there is also work in the hardware aspect, "he said.
